PDF to PNG

Convert PDF to PNG online: export every page as a lossless PNG image at your chosen resolution. Free and private, in your browser.

Files are processed in your browser and never uploaded.

How to convert PDF to PNG

  1. Drop a PDF onto the drop zone above, or click to select one.
  2. Choose a Resolution: 72, 150 or 300 DPI.
  3. Click Convert to PNG.
  4. Download the pages you need from the results, or click Download all to get every page as a PNG in one ZIP archive.

Rendering happens in your browser with pdf.js, so the PDF is never uploaded and the images are created on your own device.

PNG vs JPG for PDF pages

Both formats store a grid of pixels, but they compress it differently. PNG is lossless: every pixel is stored exactly, so the image is a perfect copy of the rendered page. JPG is lossy: it throws away fine detail to save space, which is fine for photos but can blur the edges of text and thin lines.

If your PDF is mostly photographs or scanned pages, PDF to JPG will usually give similar visual quality at a fraction of the size.

Choosing a resolution

DPI (dots per inch) controls how many pixels are produced for each inch of the PDF page. A US Letter page (8.5 × 11 in) at 150 DPI becomes about 1275 × 1650 pixels; at 300 DPI it becomes 2550 × 3300 pixels. Because the width and height both double, 300 DPI images contain four times as many pixels as 150 DPI images, and PNG files grow accordingly.

  • 72 DPI – small previews and thumbnails.
  • 150 DPI – comfortable on-screen reading, web pages, documentation and slides.
  • 300 DPI – printing, cropping small details, or feeding pages into OCR software.

Tips and limitations

  • PNG files of full pages can be large. If size matters more than pixel-perfect accuracy, shrink them afterwards with Compress Image.
  • Text in the images is not selectable or searchable. To get the words themselves, use PDF to Text.
  • Converting long documents at 300 DPI uses a lot of memory and can take a while on phones and older computers.
  • Password-protected or encrypted PDFs cannot be converted. Unlock it first with Unlock PDF (you need its password), then come back.

Frequently asked questions

Is PNG better quality than JPG?

For the same resolution, PNG preserves every pixel exactly, so text and lines stay perfectly crisp. JPG can look identical at high quality settings but is never pixel-exact.

Why are my PNG files so big?

Lossless compression cannot discard detail, and full pages at 300 DPI contain millions of pixels. Use 150 DPI, or switch to JPG for photo-heavy pages.

How do I get all pages at once?

Every page is converted automatically. Click Download all to save them in a single ZIP archive, one PNG per page, named by page number.

Can I turn the PNGs back into a PDF?

Yes, add them to JPG to PDF, which also accepts PNG images, and choose the page size you want.
