How to convert images
- Drop one or more images onto the upload area. JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and HEIC files can be mixed in a single batch.
- Choose the Output format: JPG, PNG or WebP.
- Adjust the Quality slider if you are converting to JPG or WebP (80 is a good default).
- Click Convert images and download the converted files.
Every image is converted inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored, so the converter is safe for private photos and confidential graphics.
Choosing the right image format
JPG, PNG and WebP are the three formats that every modern browser, operating system and most apps can display. Each has a different strength:
| JPG | PNG | WebP | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Compression | Lossy | Lossless | Lossy or lossless |
| Transparency | No | Yes | Yes |
| Best for | Photos | Screenshots, logos, text, editing | Web images of all kinds |
| File size | Small | Large for photos | Usually smallest |
| Compatibility | Universal | Universal | All modern browsers; some older apps lack support |
In short: use JPG when you need a photo that opens absolutely everywhere, PNG when you need pixel-perfect quality or a transparent background, and WebP when the image is going on a website and you want the smallest file.
What happens during conversion
- Transparency is kept when converting to PNG or WebP. JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white.
- HEIC/HEIF photos from iPhones and iPads are decoded in the browser. This takes more processing than other formats, so large batches may be slower.
- GIF animations are converted to a single still image, because JPG, PNG and canvas-based WebP output are not animated.
- Metadata such as camera EXIF data and GPS location is not copied into the new file, a useful side effect if you share photos online.
Tips
- Converting a JPG to PNG does not restore detail lost by JPG compression; it only stops further losses when you edit and re-save.
- For the smallest web images, convert to WebP and resize at the same time with Resize Image.
- Need a single conversion type? Dedicated pages such as HEIC to JPG and PNG to WebP have the format pre-selected.
Frequently asked questions
Which input formats are supported?
JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and HEIC/HEIF, plus most other image formats your browser can open.
Can I convert many images at once?
Yes. Drop a whole folder's worth of images and they are all converted to the format you choose.
Why did my transparent background turn white?
The JPG format does not support transparency. Choose PNG or WebP to keep transparent areas.
