How to convert PDF to JPG

  1. Drop a PDF onto the drop zone above, or click to choose one.
  2. Select a Resolution: 72, 150 or 300 DPI.
  3. Adjust the Quality slider if needed. Higher values give sharper images and larger files; the default of 80 suits most uses.
  4. Click Convert to JPG. Every page appears as a thumbnail with its own Download button; for a multi-page PDF, Download all saves every image in one ZIP archive.

Pages are rendered by pdf.js in your browser and encoded to JPG locally, so the document is never uploaded to a server.

DPI explained

PDF pages are measured in physical units. An A4 page is 210 × 297 mm (about 8.27 × 11.69 inches); a US Letter page is 8.5 × 11 inches. DPI (dots per inch) decides how many pixels are produced for every inch of the page, so the image size is simply the page size multiplied by the DPI.

DPIA4 page in pixels (approx.)Good for
72595 × 842Thumbnails, previews, quick sharing in chat
1501240 × 1754Reading on screen, websites, presentations
3002480 × 3508Printing, zooming into fine print, OCR

Doubling the DPI quadruples the number of pixels, which is why 300 DPI images are much larger and take longer to produce than 150 DPI ones. Choose the lowest resolution that still looks sharp for your purpose.

JPG quality and when to choose PNG

JPG uses lossy compression: it discards detail the eye is unlikely to notice, which keeps files small. It is excellent for pages with photos, gradients and scanned paper. On pages full of small black text on a white background, however, JPG can create faint smudges ("artefacts") around letters, especially at low quality settings.

  • For text-heavy pages, diagrams or screenshots where crisp edges matter, PDF to PNG gives lossless output.
  • For photos and scans, JPG at quality 75–85 is usually indistinguishable from the original and much smaller.
  • Need even smaller files after conversion? Compress Image can reduce quality or resize them in bulk.
  • Password-protected or encrypted PDFs are not supported. Unlock it first with Unlock PDF (you need its password), then come back.
Tip: If you only need one or two pages as images, first pull them out with Split PDF. Converting fewer pages is faster, especially at 300 DPI.

Frequently asked questions

Which DPI should I pick?

150 DPI is a good default for viewing on screens. Use 300 DPI if you plan to print the images or need to read small text, and 72 DPI for small previews.

How do I download every page at once?

Click Download all below the results. It bundles one JPG per page into a ZIP archive, with files named by page number, such as report-page-3.jpg.

Is the text in the JPG selectable?

No. A JPG is a picture of the page. To get editable text, use PDF to Text or PDF to Word instead.

Can I convert several PDFs at once?

The converter handles one PDF at a time, but every page of that PDF is converted in one go. Repeat the process for each additional document.
